THE CLIENT BRIEF
Promoting Employability and Entrepreneurship in Turkana West
WIDU.africa is a GIZ-implemented project with the aim of creating employment in African countries. Through its online platform, WIDU.africa, supports micro and small businesses in the informal and formal sectors with coaching as well as grant financing. The platform approach enables the project to support micro and small businesses with coaching measures in a scalable and cost-effective manner. In contrast to traditional TC projects, the platform approach enables direct disbursements and thus replaces cost-intensive financing
contracts with intermediary third parties. Through the implementation of the local thematic calls, such as “Green Call”, “Food Security calls”, WIDU was able to support micro and small businesses with green business and food security models to access business coaching and grant financing.
As part of the joint impact reporting and communications strategy, the two programmes intended to document and share success stories from 7 businesses that had successfully completed their projects. WIDU.africa sought MediaForce Communications’ specialized services in media and communications to provide documentation support for its projects, to capture and tell impactful success stories and insights from the project teams on the call’s progress and lessons learned. The documentary aims to raise awareness of the GIZ WIDU and ProSEET programmes and to highlight the impact of combining financial and technical support for micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in both host and refugee communities.
For project stakeholders, the outputs are designed to enhance visibility and ensure that success stories are consistently communicated to diverse audiences. Ultimately, the final deliverables are expected to contribute to amplifying the impact of diaspora remittances across Africa.
