Peace Brigades International – Kenya
Peace Brigades International – Kenya is a Project of Peace Brigades International, registered in Kenya as a domestic NGO with the mandate and commitment to maintain and increase the civic space for HRDs by helping them to overcome challenges and by providing them a range of tools and support to mitigate risks which come as a result of their efforts in defence of human rights.
PBI Kenya has been working closely with a network of 15 Women Human Rights Defenders (WHRDs) from 5 of Nairobi’s urban settlements (Kibera, Mathare, Kawangware, Langata and Mukuru) since 2016. They focus on prevention and appropriate response to Sexual Gender Based Violence (SGBV). The project is expanding to a county outside Nairobi in 2023 and will have an additional 15 WHRD TOs.

The challenge
Women Rights are Human Rights
Peace Brigades International Kenya invited bids from competent firms for consultancy services to undertake the development of a 25-pager photobook for the first phase of Women Human Rights Defenders Toolkit project from 2016-2022.
We developed a 25-pager photo book with photos and captivating stories that portray the journey of the WHRD TOs from 2016, highlighting their motivations, experiences, successes and lessons learnt during their 1st phase in the WHRD Toolkit Organizers programme. We collected 17 stories, 14 from WHRDs within Kibera, Mathare, Kawangware, Langata and Mukuru, 2 from PBI staff at the PBI office in Nairobi, and 1 from a partner at the German embassy. We also successfully 150 copies ,A4 size on landscape with a maximum of 25 pages each.
RESULTS & REALIZATIONS
