Established in 2005 as the cultural arm of AwaaZ Magazine, Samosa Festival is a cross-cultural festival that seeks to use all elements of culture i.e. music, art, performance, theatre, films and discussions to generate and promote interaction among Kenyans of all walks of life, towards cohesion and integration.
In 2016, the festival took place in and around the Eastleigh neighbourhood of Nairobi. The festival aimed to look at the many challenges facing Eastleigh's inhabitants through the lens of arts and culture thus creating an environment for reflective dialogue and understanding.
Through close partnerships with the community, media and a number of local and international organizations, Samosa Festival curated cultural, historical, academic and artistic events and workshops for the benefit of the community and civil society, with the mission of engaging, educating, and illuminating the rich cultural traditions and aspirations of this marginalized and often-misrepresented neighbourhood.
